Natalism (and antinatalism)
Antinatalism
A set of opinions and arguments that counter the notion that having children is something that we as humans should do. The mains lines of argument as far as I know are:
- Climate change will make the world and thus life very bad for many in the future. Bringing somebody into this would be unethical.
- Life is inherently filled with pain, more pain that pleasure overall, and forcing this on “somebody” would be unethical.
- Human cognitive abilit makes us question our existence and the univers to the extent that existence itself becomes meaningless to us. Bringing somebody into a life of essentially meaningless existence is unethical.
