Why Not Spotify

Spotify pays badly, and most artists except for the big ones of course does not get very well paid. Thus making the prospect of bing a full time artist a very
challenging one.

The reasons

Personally I have more and more tried to rely on CDs and buying tracks online for my music needs. The above argument being one of the reasons:

Actually pay creators (that I listen to)

Avoid paying creators (I don’t listen to)

Own my own music

Organise and care for my own music

The app is not nice: crowded (I never thought it was)

The environement

A reason that does not make the cut for me is the environment/greenhouse gas argument. Not to say that

2023 in Review

2023 was in many ways a defining year, an interesting year and a totally unpredictable one.

I continued to modify and build on the house and the surounding area.

I traveled a lot.

In January I met Alexandra.

Shortly after meeting, we traveled a lot.

In terms of goals and lists, 2023 exploded my unset intentions and as such is an exception comparing to previous years.

In the large of it this does not matter though. Life is for living.

Aspirations and worth

Talking from my own perspective, I often get my sense of worth mixed up with with a sense of success and popularity. Nonetheless I do believe that it’s important for general feeling of happiness and belonging that I try to keep these separate.

Why?

My reasoning is fairly simple. Whatever my plans and intentions, life might not end up as I want it to.

I might get sick, not manage to acheive certain things, not get to do everything on my many grand lists.

Life is a game

Regarding these two Commoncog blog articles

The Dangers of Treating Life as a Game

Are You Playing to Play, or Playing to Win?

Takeaways:

Scrubs: people “playing the game to play and not to win”.

The non-virtue of this

and eventually why you should play to win but that the rules of the game are internally set; you decide yourself which game to play and by which rules.

Noisy internet culture ideology (partly) strikes once again. I postulate:

PHP Blast Off

I’ve been programming in PHP for as long as I can remember really. And it has served me; but it hasn’t quite satisfied me. It work swell enough, but it feels a bit rough and “primitive” sometimes.

But you know, it has kept the money rolling in.

So, for some time I’ve been contemplating trying to partly move on from PHP not only in my spare time programming but also professionally, and I think the moment has arrived for this metamorphosis to start.

Ideological Internet Noise

(Highly exaggerated opinion on own observations)

In the internet spheres I spend a lot of time the common idea framework consists of contrived notions founded on:

capitalist and liberalist themes

extreme individualism

internet fetishisation

productivity obsession

twitter-wisdom

“Grains of freedom”

That is, the focus is on a certain type of success that one is supposed to measure oneself against. Even though people speak of freedom, liberty, travel, minimalism, a lot of the “heroes” openly admit to working tons of hours and getting rich for it.

Publishing work

The act of publishing seemingly important artifacts of your existence on the internet or through another medium.

Common arguments in favor of this:

Inspire others

Become “a leader in your field”

Monetise; earn money

Extended learning through writing

Improve writing ability

Share insight

My conundrums

Personally I have two problems with this act.

1. I don’t want to be a waste of space

Browsing the internet and the for all intents and purposes limitless amount of blogs, virtual notepads, digital gardens and external brains, makes me not want to add to it since I feel like most of this content is a bit useless and superficial. I don’t want to be a part of it.
